Beatlemania for infants? Redbone Guitar kicks off music classes for kids
He claims he doesn’t have a natural gift for music. Maybe, maybe not. But he definitely has a natural gift for creating a unique mise-en-scène. Richard Turner is the owner of Redbone Guitar Boutique…a little music store with a lot of character.
You might know Richard’s name from his Beatles radio show on KSYM. He’s done it now for the last 23 years. But last year, he decided he wanted to do more. So he took his collection and opened up a guitar shop at 4343 McCullough Ave.
But it just wasn’t enough. He wanted the kids. He wanted them inspired. He wanted to share a beat that can carry them through their lives.
So, this fall, he starts up T Street Music Instruction with classes for the little ones. Seriously – little ones. Infants up to six years old.
Richard and his wife aren’t coming into this blindly. She’s a former Montessori teacher, and he’s been a PE coach. Their instructors come well qualified. It’s quite an undertaking. But if my kids were any younger, I’d give it a try.
I’m looking at his store and thinking it beats the heck out of Gymboree on the cool enviro-meter. My finger’s itching to grab a hold of something. So, I ask him if he lets the kids touch the stuff in his store.
Sure, was the cool response. “I encourage them to break it. That way, mom and dad have to buy it.” I’m pretty sure he was just kidding.
