Safety First

I get my best blog ideas from questions readers ask me on twitter or facebook. Here’s the latest: where can I find good information about how to vet kids’ camps for safety?
I love this question because safety is paramount…right above fun….on the best-camp-ever-ometer.
Basically, safety falls into five essential areas:
- staff training
- staff to camper ratio
- protocols in place
- accreditation
- past history
And it’s your responsibility to check into all the above…because no one else is going to do it for you. Fortunately, there are some great sites to help guide you through the process. I recommend the following:
- American Camping Association How To Choose A Camp Safety Tips
- American Academy of Pediatrics Creating Healthy Camp Experiences
- US Sports Institute Sports Camp Safety
- New York Health Department Summer Camp Checklist
