SA Parks & Rec offers another great summer

Posted by MomOnMars on May 24, 2011

Parents looking for a safe, structured environment for their children this summer need look no further than the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program. Hundreds of children sign up to participate but there’s always plenty of room at Community Center and Elementary School sites. Registration for community center sites is offered at any of the department’s 23 year-round Community Centers during regular business hours. These sites accept youngsters ages six to 14.

Registration for Summer Youth Program school sites for youth, ages 6 to 12, is offered at the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Headquarters, 5800 Old Hwy. 90 W. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. School site evening registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at the following locations during the month of May:
Mondays at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Durango
Tuesdays at the South Park Mall Community Link Service Center, 2310 S.W. Military Dr. (located just outside JCPenney).
Wednesdays at Lincoln Community Center, 2915 E. Commerce St.
Thursdays at Ron Darner Headquarters, 5800 Old Highway 90 West

The program runs from June 13 through Aug. 5, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A free lunch and afternoon snack are included. Participants enjoy an entire summer of recreation-themed activities including games, sports, arts and crafts, and a weekly enrichment program in fine arts, science and fitness/nutrition.
Fees for the program are based on a sliding scale, according to income and family size. The fee schedule and a list of items needed to complete the process are available at www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec. Parents interested in using the sliding scale are encouraged to complete the income verification process in advance. Income Verification is offered at all Parks and Recreation Community Centers during regular business hours; and at the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Headquarters building, 5800 Old Highway 90 West, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 207-3000.
