Three off-beat events coming up this week and next
Posted by MomOnMars on November 29, 2011
Trying to hold back on the holiday preparations for just a few more days? Believe it or not, there are actually some events completely unrelated to the holidays that you and your kids can enjoy. Yes – it’s really true. Took some digging, but we’ve found some!
Phil Hardberger Park – Dinosaur George, December 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
If you have a child, then you’ll love George Blasing, known far and wide as Dinosaur George. He’s a self-taught paleontologist and animal behaviorist who has delighted children for years with his HUGE collection of dinosaur bones and fossils. Trust me on this…my son loved him when he was younger. This is appropriate for all ages and has a $5 suggested donation per family.
San Antonio Museum of Art – First Sundays for Families, December 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Great Hall
This is a wonderful, free monthly activity at the San Antonio Museum of Art, made possible through a grant from the Frances Margaret Seaver Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation. This month’s activity is all about Jade. Children will explore the 5,000-year history of Chinese jade through hands-on activities, including a scavenger hunt, claywork and by enjoying a jade carving demo. There will also be a special storytelling session. For more details: First Sundays Jade
Santikos – Eva’s Heroes Special Presentation of The Muppets, December 6 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
If you have a special needs individual in your family, then this special presentation in a sensory friendly and accepting environment is for you. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and movie begins at 6:00 p.m. Guests with intellectual special needs will be admitted for free. Attending parents, friends, sibling, caregivers, and general public pay going rate for the theater they attend.
