Too early to start thinking about camp? I think not. Some San Antonio camps are already opening up registration, and if you want to get in the game, you’d better get your pencils sharpened, and those applications filled out. Here are four camps that are waiting to hear from you.
San Antonio PREP (Pre-Freshman Engineering Program) for middle and high school whiz kids who are into math, science and engineering. It’s an eight-week long program each summer for four years, but you can enter at any point. For each successful summer completed, the student receives one unit of elective credit. Camp runs from Wednesday, June 13, 2012, through Tuesday, July 31, 2012, and the deadline to apply is January 31.
YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow on the banks of the Guadalupe River in Hunt Texas has three camps for children ages 6 all the way up to 17 years old. Pricing is tiered – an honor system based on ability to pay, starting at $303. Sessions begin as early as June 10 and run through August 4. You do have plenty of time to register…right up to June 1.
San Antonio School for the Performing Arts Musical Theatre Camps. What’s your passion? Ballet? Jazz? Hip hop? Highland? Acting? Vocals? Stage Training? You want it? SASPA’s got it. There are two sessions, June 18-22 and July 6-10 for ages 6 and up…either musical theatre or continual classes. Your choice. Tuition starts at $250. No deadline to register, but enrollment is limited.
iD Tech Camps Weeklong, geek-out camps for the tech prone child. Not cheap (starts at $799 for the week), but intensive with just about any level of technology your child might be interested in…from game design to iPhone and iPad apps to 3D game modding (ask your kid what it means), web design and flash animation, film production, robotics, Java programming and C++ programming for mini-geniuses ages 9-17. Overnight camp is available at iD Tech camps around the state or in San Antonio at Trinity University. You do save $75 if you register before January 31.
