SABusyKids Guide to Fiesta: Fiesta for Good
Posted by Sarah W on April 17, 2012
Fiesta is a unique San Antonio tradition for many reasons. It’s a 10-day celebration for the people. It’s sponsored by non-profits. And it’s oodles of fun for the whole family. If you’re feeling the urge to give back this Fiesta, here are some pretty cool Fiesta events benefitting some pretty cool people.
SA Youth is hosting their 6th annual Chips N Salsa! Event on April 21, from 7pm – 11pm. It’s your chance to be a ‘high roller’ at the poker table or put your Dancing with the Stars knowledge to use on the sizzling salsa dance floor. Tickets are $50 for regular entry or $100 for VIP- and proceeds go to benefit SA Youth whose programs support high-risk urban youth through a fun, safe, positive learning environment. For more information visit sanantonioyouth.org, or call (210) 223-3131, ext. 207.
You can support college scholarships when you attend the Cutting Edge Fiesta Fashion Show on April 23 hosted by the University of Incarnate Word. The show is run entirely by students, so they get to experience every aspect of planning a professional runway show. And you can get the scoop on cutting edge fashion through the displays of new talent set to the professional standards of a New York-style runway show. Tables are available, but individual tickets can be purchased for $75, and a limited number of “show only” tickets for $25. For information and to make reservations, call (210) 829-6013, or e-mail development@uiwtx.edu.
Is your child wild about The Hunger Games? If you’re willing to drop a few pennies big bucks – thanks to the Fiesta Flambeau Parade – you have the special chance to meet Willow Shields, who plays Katniss’s kid sister Prim in The Hunger Games, at a special VIP screening of the film at the Santikos Palladium Theater on Friday, April 27th at 9:30 am. Tickets are $65 each and can be purchased online. That gets you a screening of the movie, breakfast and a chance to meet and take pictures with Willow Shields and Fiesta Royalty!
Find something you’d like to go to, but having trouble finding a sitter for a night out at Fiesta? You’re in luck – the San Antonio Children’s Museum is hosting a Kids Night Out on Friday, April 20th, from 6pm-9pm! Spots fill up fast, so register soon.
