Fiesta can be especially overwhelming for kids and adults with special needs…but there are several events just for those physical, cognitive and developmental differences and the family and friends who love them.
Organized and hosted by four organizations that serve children and adults with special needs: River City Christian School, Reaching Maximum Independence (RMI), disABILITYsa.org and u|ability, a special needs ministry of University UMC, Fiesta Especial is an official Fiesta San Antonio event on April 20 and 21 in the parking lot of Rackspace’s “The Castle” in Windcrest. It’s two full days of events including a parade, entertainment and loads of fun. Check out the schedule to plan your day.
The “Show Us Your Shoes” campaign runs from April 2nd – April 28th in all Capital One Bank – San Antonio branches. Shoes must be NEW and preferably in a box with the size marked. All types shoes are accepted, but tennis shoes, dress shoes and casual shoes are preferred over flip flops and sandals. Capital One is running a contest between all Fiesta events. The Fiesta event that brings the most shoes into Capital One Branches from 4/2 – 4/28 will win $10,000 for their organization. You can support the organizations putting on Fiesta Especial by dropping off your shoes at their event!
Morgan’s Wonderland is holding its Fiesta Kickoff April 22 at 1 p.m. with the Tyke Bike Rally & Ride.Dance along with a live performance by Radio Disney, get your face painted by silly clowns, enjoy a magic show, ride around the lake in your Fiesta-festooned bike and meet some amazing animals from Zoofari. Loads of fun for regular admission rates at the park.
SAILS Fiesta Resources Fair and Picnic will be held at Comanche Park on April 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The River City Kings, Harris Power Trio Band and Mia will all be performing. You can check the SAILS website for more information or to register.
