Military families can make some great summer connections through Blue Star Families. Blue Star Families is an organization formed by military families for military families. It is a built-in support network during difficult times and help make fun times even better.

The Blue Star Museums program is just one of the assets Blue Star Families offers. A network of museums, art exhibits, and science centers have come together with the Blue Star Museums program to offer free admission to active duty military personnel and their families during the summer, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This is the third year of the program, and brand new on the list of Blue Star Museums? The Alamo.

But that’s not the only gem on the list. They have over 1,800 participating museums across America. That might just call for a road trip – or some kind of summer vacation. Within Texas alone there are over 100. That’s a lot of museums, and has the potential to fill a lot of summers whether you stay in state or explore elsewhere.

If you don’t feel like venturing outside of the city but still want to enjoy a Blue Star Museum adventure, there are plenty of options here in San Antonio. The Alamo, of course, and others on the list include: Casa Navarro State Historic Site, Institute of Texan Cultures, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio Museum of Art, Southwest School of Art, and Villa Finale.

Blue Star Museums is made possible by the collaboration of the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, MetLife Foundation, as well as the participating museums, all working together to show support and appreciation for military families.

Discover the fun in store for your family with Blue Star Families. And check out the San Antonio chapter Facebook page to connect.
