If you’re a fan of DIY or looking for a good excuse for a day-trip to Austin, this weekend is the Austin Fall Home & Garden Show.

Compare prices, visit show rooms, dream up your next redecorating plan, or learn some gardening tips to take home with you. It’s everything you can imagine for your home or garden, and more. The show also features a very special Kid’s Zone, filled with movies, coloring contests and cooking classes.

The children’s cooking classes will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, and you can pre-register or just walk up and cook. It should be an interesting test of creativity as the cooking class features edible compost.  Your guess as to what that is exactly is. But I’m assured it will be a part of making yummy memories.

The classes are Saturday, August 18 at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 19 at 12 noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

But there’s more, including live cooking demonstrations, a Pet Zone where you can visit with some very adorable and very adoptable pets and “Yard Crashers” star Ahmed Hassan on Saturday and Sunday.

The Austin Fall Home & Garden Show will be held at the Austin Convention Center, located at 500 E. Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78701. Admission is $8 for adults 17 and up and free for kids 16 and under. Advanced tickets are available online at a discounted price.

The schedule runs Friday, August 17 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 19 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
