Transitioning back to school

Monday … school starts. Some of you may have already started. Which means I’m late in writing this blog post…
And so it goes in our back to school routine. A late start…but we’re getting there. We began moving bedtime back just last week. Haircuts – done. Immunizations – done. School uniforms – done. School supplies – done.
So why am I so nervous?
How are you transitioning your kids back to school?

My little one isn’t of age for back-to-school yet but I know it will come quickly! A good graphic calculator can always come in handy!!

I sneak my son’s out every so often to do something. Sometimes just to play with the features!
We started our school routine last week – that’s always the biggest help!!

It is. I always worry during the summer my oldest is going to get his days and nights mixed up..and unmixing them would be such a challenge…
We start more structered days about a 2 weeks before the first day including wake up and bedtimes.
I tried. And failed. Maybe it’s the teenage years
The most important thing they have been doing is going to bed early which has helped with them waking up earlier.
That is so important!
We had our boys go to sleep early last week, and practice getting up to their school alarms.
Love the website! It’s my new favorite resource!
Thanks, Lana! I’m so glad you like the website. I love that your kids get up to alarms. Mine have a tendency to sleep through them.
We have been putting them to bed early, getting their clothes ready the night before and waking up at a reasonable time.
Good plan!
Getting to bed early and getting them in the habit of laying clothes out the night before!
I was so happy when my kids got to middle school and they required uniforms. No more morning panic over clothes. When they were younger, we’d try laying out clothes the night before, but somehow, they always wanted to change it at the last minute!
Believe it or not, my HUSBAND uses a TI-84 for his job. This would be a sweet upgrade for him!
Oh, he’d love the color screen!
My kids are starting Sept 4, but we are already talking about schedules and getting into a housecleaning and breakfast routine. (We homeschool.) We’ve also picked up a couple books we didn’t quite finish from last year and are using them as a “soft start” each day before our official first day, to warm the kids back up to the academic side of life.
I love the dress rehearsal (you call it a soft start!). What a fabulous idea!
Two weeks before school started they started back on a ‘school schedule’ going to bed by 9, and getting up at the time they’ll get up for school. All of this put me back on a meal schedule too!

My neurologist friend would say you’ve done good! Although he proposes keeping to a routine all summer long. Not sure my kids would go for that!
yay could use it for my jr high teen!
That’s a great age to start using these graphing calculators!
We’re already at the end of Week 3, and I’m amazed at how well mine are getting out of bed in the mornings — better than ever — and so far doing great in school. Imagine how well my freshman could be doing with that calculator, though! Just sayin. Thanks!
We started restricting electronics usage and pushed bedtimes back a few weeks before school. We are on day four and things seem to be going well!!
We started with earlier bed times & waking up extra early because we have to be out the door at 7:15 to get everyone to school on time!
Since we homeschool I have been slowly trying to work in better sleeping and waking routines to prepare for school starting. I decided to start about half of the subjects this week and them move to the full schedule in another week. We made a library trip to check out books (and reserve a bunch) 2 weeks ago so reading is in FULL swing already.

my son is a teen, so he pretty much knows how late he can stay up, and function the next day, lol…I do try to set a cut off time at night though, for all electronics…
My teenage son sure could use this calculator right now! They are so expensive, but definitely necessary, especially when you are in the military and your child has to keep up with so many different curriculums. Going from one school to another, he has had to adapt to all of the different math teachers and the different ways math has been taught by them. Do math this way, do math that way, the only consistent thing he’s had has been a calculator. The one he has now has been used so much it’s about to break, plus moving so much hasn’t helped it any either. It gets jostled around in the boxes a lot. One thing about those calculators, they are pretty durable overall.
we started getting up early a few days before school started. this would be great to win! thank you.
We established an earlier bed time to help with the transition.
We got my son a tutor.
Hope to win
We always get up earlier about a week before and try to refresh some things a few weeks before with math.
