Six Special Trick-or-Treat Options for Families

A typical Halloween might involve dressing up, snapping pictures of the cute and cleverly costumed kids, and patrolling the neighborhood, block to block, collecting and inspecting goodies until your feet hurt. Then you make the long journey home. There’s something admirable about that tradition, but options are always nice, especially for little ones who might tire easily from a Halloween hike.
If you’re not up for candy hunting through the neighborhood this year, there are plenty of trick-or-treat alternatives in San Antonio. Here’s the SA Busy Kids list of hot-spots for an out-of-the-box Halloween:
Where: Blue Star Contemporary Art Center – 116 Blue Star
When: Saturday, October 27: 12 pm – 4 pm
Tickets: Free and open to the public
Trade treats for an afternoon of art activities at this Blue Star Family Day event. Create unique works of art with local artists and enjoy performances from local music and dance groups. And don’t forget your costume. Kids of all ages are invited to join in the costume parade with H-E-Buddy.
Where: San Antonio Children’s Museum – 305 E. Houston St.
When: Sunday, October 28: 12 pm – 4 pm
Tickets: Purchase online in advance – $9 for non-members/ $5 for members
Come dressed in your favorite costume for some spook-tacular fun with the San Antonio Children’s Museum. Enjoy games and prizes, a not-too-spooky storytime with Miss Anastasia, creepy crawlers, a magic show, and design your own bag for trick-or-treating around the museum. Halloween is fun for everyone at the Monster Bash.
Where: San Antonio Zoo – 3903 North St. Mary’s St.
When: Tuesday, October 30 & Wednesday, October 31: 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Tickets: In Advance -$5 for members/ $6 for non-members; Event Day -$6 for members/ $7 for non-members
Families with kids 12 years and younger are invited to celebrate Halloween with an evening of trick-or-treating, face painting, entertainment, and games at the San Antonio Zoo. Wear your favorite costume and remember to bring your own re-useable bag to trick-or-treat with the animals this Halloween.
Where: HemisFair Park – S. Alamo entrance, 600 HemisFair Plaza Way
When: Wednesday, October 31: 4 pm – 8:30 pm
Tickets: Free and open to the public
Spend Halloween evening in HemisFair Park with your friends and family. Trick-or-treat, find your way through the Haunted Maze, enjoy the food trucks, music, and costume contest, and see what more they have in store at this family-friendly celebration downtown.
More Delightful Than Frightful
Where: Morgan’s Wonderland – 5223 David Edwards Drive
When: Wednesday, October 31: 5 pm – 8 pm
Tickets: Free with food donation in advance, $5 at the door
There are no tricks, just treats at this special Halloween celebration at Morgan’s Wonderland. Wear your most delightful costume and enjoy adventuring in the park with a night of trick-or-treating. Children ages 12 and under and those with special needs or disabilities of all ages are invited to enjoy this festive evening of fun.
Trick-or-Treating at Bass Pro Shops
Where: Bass Pro Shops – 17907 West I-10
When: Fridays, October 19 & 26; Wednesday, October 31: 5 pm – 8 pm
Tickets: Free and open to the public
