All Around Camps
If you are searching for variety, this is the place to be. These camps fall into two categories: more choices than you can throw a stick at or just, plain, well-rounded rowdy camps with a little of everything.
San Antonio Academy: What do you want? They’ve got it. The later you are after Spring Break, the more you need to make sure you’ve checked the closed class list. These camps fill up fast!
Jewish Community Center: Very loud. Very active. Very fun. And swim lessons everyday of the week.
YMCA: 12 different sites and field trips. Yay.
North East Independent School District: Doesn’t look like NEISD is offering individual courses this year, but rather general, all-around camps for elementary and middle school students.
Northside Independent School District: Wins the award for the most intriguing because of its Tambofunction-Drumming class for children with special needs.
Summer at the Heights: Wins the award for best ewwwwww-factor with its advanced extreme dissection camp.
Summer at the Hall: Classes start for ages 3 and up. Wins the award for gee-my-kids-need-that for A to Z Etiquette. Also, some fab for-credit classes for upper school students.
Primrose Schools: three locations in San Antonio, but they all offer the same camps
Northwest Vista College Kids Jam Camps: Grades 1st – 8th
Summer Survivor Camp at St. Luke’s Episcopal School
San Antonio Children’s Museum for weeklong sessions on science, art and music.
Discovery Camp at Stone Oak Elementary and Wetmore Elementary and Adventure Club at Longs Creek Elementary. Each week… a new field trip! Costs start at $90/week . To register, call 657-8866, ext. 277 or 232.
San Antonio Parks & Rec Summer Youth Program with more than 40 sites each summer. Eight week, full day programs for ages 6 to 14. Fees start at $250 with a sliding scale based on annual income.
The Bilingual Child Academy immerse your child in language and culture! Offering arts and crafts, fun and outdoor games, music and movement, and language learning!
The Guadalupe Cultural Art Center has summer programs that offer rich, creative, and cultural experience for children, teens and adults.
Also – be sure to check area faith communities. Chances are very good that if they offer child care during the year, they also have a summer program. Find a good starting list of accredited schools on the National Association of Education for Young Children’s website.
