Out of the Box Camps
There’s camp….and then there’s out-of-the-box camp. These are some surprising camp offerings that caught my attention just because they offer something different than everybody else. That means they don’t really fit under any other heading…so they get one all their own!
Camp Illusion Magic Camp: When I first blogged about this, I got so many hits from people googling “how to make your kids disappear.” That cracks me up.
Camp Can-I-Cook: Young Chef’s Academy’s offering into the summer space. I’m all over the chocolate adventure!
Camp Humane: For the aspiring vet in the family.
USA Chess Camp: at St. Lukes Episcopal School
Game Builder: If your child loves playing computer video games, just imagine how much he’ll enjoy creating them!
ACE Academy: For future pilots of America. An aviation camp that rocks! Note that their website is out of date, but I have confirmed they will be holding camp in 2010.
The Alamo! For 2011, looks like The Alamo has switched over to just a one-day camp in July and August. Really wouldn’t call that a camp, but maybe there are plans for the longer camp to come back.
Okay, I’m told this is an awesome sport. But swords…I’m just not sure! But in case your kid is light on his or her toes, try Fencing with the Alamo Fencing Academy. Starts at $230.
This one is in Austin, but just unique enough to include: Farm Camp. This includes chicken farming, weeding, beekeeping and more!
